How a recorded result moves Rating Points

A recorded win or loss is measured against the other team's average rating. Against an equal team a win is +20 and a loss is −20. The full rules are on the Ranks page.

This page explains the written ladder. It does not apply a match, and it does not change a stored rating.

The step

Expected score is the chance the engine assigns before the match, based only on the two ratings. Against an equal rating that chance is one half, so a win is worth 20 Rating Points and a loss costs 15.

Against a higher rating, a win is worth more than 20 and a loss costs less. Against a lower rating, the opposite. A win always gives 10 to 30 and a loss always costs 10 to 30. In tiers 7–9 wins and losses are both multiplied by 0.85 and in tier 10 by 0.75, so the top moves more steadily. The rating is held between 100 and 3,000.

On a team result, every player is measured against the other team's average rating. A match MVP bonus of 2 RP is planned for when the server records kills; until then no personal bonus is applied.

A draw

A draw changes nothing: every player keeps the same rating. Abandoning or leaving a match costs twice the normal loss, at least 30 RP, whatever the result.

The table on this page is the engine working on example inputs. Those rows are not stored matches, and they are not your account.

Worked examples from the engine

Each row calls the same Rating Point function the ladder uses. The inputs are examples. They are not saved to an account.
